Jason Zyla: For a number of years, Jason has been running an independent mask company called NFXStudios which is growing in leaps and bounds.  He finished '02 with an outstanding lineup and has big, big plans for '03.  Jason is also very active in the mask community and can be found speaking up for his fondness of the Myers craze.  Keep an eye on his site for some good stuff upcoming. www.NFXStudios.net

Jordu Schell: Jordu is the master of creature creating.  He's been doing it professionally since the 80's and comes out with some of the most unique creations you'll ever see.  Jordu got his first taste of masks as a kid and has been collecting and creating them ever since.  He's worked his way up to the big time in Hollywood, but still spends time producing some great pieces of art for the collectors out there. www.schellstudio.com

Dick Smith: Dick is the father of modern day FX.  He's been working at it for over half a century and now and selflessly gives back to the community what he has spent years perfecting.  Many big name pros learned the craft directly from him and he offers a thorough course that passes on his great expanse of knowledge to artists today. To say he influences every mask maker out there is an understatement.  www.dicksmithmake-up.com

Henry Alvarez: Henry is another big name pro that has been doing it for ages and doing it well.  Henry works in all sorts of mediums: wax, bronze, latex, you name it.  He's consistently named one of the most talented and prolific artists out there.  If you haven't seen some of his existing work, you probably haven't gotten out of your cave much.

Ed Edmunds: Ed is the President of Distortions Unlimited and has been making masks since the late 70's.  He started out with high quality pieces and introduced haunted animatronics to the industry that caught fire and blossomed into a new business.  Distortions continues to lead the way with new and innovative products and Ed is steering that ship quite well. www.distortionsonline.com

Don Post Sr.: This is a man that needs no introduction.  If it wasn't for Don Post Sr. inventing full head masks, the hobby would be something totally different today.  His household name is synonymous with masks and his Studio has put out more masks than you can imagine.  He's even mentioned in encyclopedias.  How's that for impact?

Steve Wang: Steve's work leaves your jaw on the floor.  Steve credits masks as his roots in FX and loves to come home to the craft.  He has set trends with his designs and can turn even the most out of this world idea into something beautiful and very much believable. Predator, Aliens, The Guyver are just a few of his accomplishments.  Check out Steve's new line of masks for '02.

Russ Lukich: Russ is one of the most visible FX pros in the community.  His work raises the bar and feeds the appetite of collectors looking for that perfect piece for their collection.  His limited runs tend to sell out almost as fast as he can offer them. When Russ isn't doing something for Hollywood, he has any number of projects in the works to further his sleep deprivation. www.fxwork.com

3

Paul Daniels: Paul's been at it since the mid 90's selling alot of really cool pieces of his own and working with artists to produce their work.  Where he gets the time is anyone's guess, but each year, his lineup grows bigger and better.  Paul is pivotal to the independent mask world and just about every collector has at least one of his pieces in their collection. www.darksidestudio.net

2

Justin Mabry: Justin has ignited more trends in the mask world than any handful of artists.  He's typically one of the first names that comes to people's mind when they think independent mask maker.   Justin really shines in his in-depth mask knowledge and his wide array of mask creations.  He doesn't just focus on one particular trend, but tends to have art to satisfy everyone's appetite. www.nightowl.n3.net

Jeff Death: What can you say about Jeff?  He's been called the Yoda of mask making.  The big cheese.  Jeff has been running Death Studios for over 20 years.  While other studios with more backing and resources have come and gone, Jeff year after year has put out a quality product.  Ask any mask maker where they learned the craft and most will refer to his video and advice.  Jeff shows no signs of stopping and continues to work unbelievable hours to put that painted rubber on everyone's head. www.deathstudios.com

There you have it, the tops as chosen by the people.  Not too many surprises in my opinion.  A good mix of local names and big name folks.  Leave a little feedback, give these folks a hand or just express your anger for not making the list (you did vote didn't you?)
