Head
is too pinkish. To cut this down, I use a thin wash of green.
Com Art forest green transparent. HIGHLY thinned. I spray over
the pinkish areas, knocking them down. I spray in a random
pattern, but concentrate on the pink areas. I decided I want
another layer, but not something heavy. I use FW translucent
Sepia and thin it way down. You want next to no paint pigment
in the mixture. Now the back of the head is finished.
(Side
of head) I mix FW purple lake translucent/Com Art translucent
Manganese violet with alcohol. I spray under the cheek really
dark in a random pattern and also in the deep area. I use Com
Art translucent black mixed with alcohol and spray around the eyes
and mist over the purple area to darken them down .
I also use this in the ear holes and top and bottom of the eyelids.
Now use a white to lightly add a pattern under the check.
Don't overdo it.
(Ears) I start by mixing Com Art translucent Manganese thinned with
alcohol. I spray a vein patter coming
out
of the ear holes and any deep pits of the face and all over the
sides of the face.
(Sides of head) Mix up Com Art forest green translucent thinned with
alcohol and spray a vein pattern keeping it random. I go over
the violet veins to knock them down, but leave some of the veins
showing. Now spray Com Art Translucent violet thinned
with alcohol. Do a random vein pattern on the sides to give
depth.
Use Com Art white
opaque thinned with water then alcohol. Spray a light thin
vein pattern all over the sides of the ear and face area. This
time, hit the green and purple to lighten them up a bit.
Now go back and forth with these colors mentioned above to achieve
depth. Now I spray some thinned black to hit the purple areas
again.
(Front
and top of head) I mix FW cool grey and thin with water and alcohol.
I spray the front top of the head and the flaps of the face. I
leave some of the middle of the top showing the natural latex.
I mix FW purple lake, Com Art trans violet, Com Art trans black, Com
Art trans carmine. Now thin these down with alcohol and spray
a pattern over the gray.
Now
go back and forth to achieve the look you want.
Now the top/front of the head is done.

I start by spraying the mandibles black.
Now I use a new paint by Golden called interferance colors. I
use the green and blue and they come in tubes. The trick is to
use the green and blue 50/50 and load up a thick small brush and
wipe off most of it. Now I lightly brush over the mandibles
and not in the detail. This gives a real cool insect look.
The
eyes should still be unpainted. If there is any overspray on
them, wipe it off with alcohol. Start by using the FW Raw
Sienna lightly thinned with alcohol and water. Spray a light
dotted pattern and leave some of the latex showing.
Concentrate the color more to the outside and
less
to the inside. Now use FW Burnt Umber lightly thinned with
water and alcohol. Do the same kind of random pattern doing
soft dots and veins. Now use FW sepia thinned the same way and
do the same pattern. Now repeat until you get the look you
want.

(pupil) Black thinned with water and
alcohol and spray soft dots.
Coating:
I use Crystal Clear. Spray over the piece about 1 foot away.
Just mist it onto the mask. Keep it light or it will look
plastic and glossy looking. 2 light coats should do it.
Now use Dulling Spray the same distance to dull out any shiny areas
left by the CC.
Glossing eyes and mandibles: Use a 2 part 5
min epoxy called Devcon. Mix up a little and apply to one eye
at a time. you only need a little bit, so don't use a heavy
coating. Same for mandibles and inside of ear and teeth.
